Tonight I decided to strip down the 1942 Singer 95k43Industrial machine.
The Woman that I had bought it off had paid a retired sewing machine engineer to service this machine as it was intended to be a present for her Sister.
Unfortunately, her Sister didnt like the cabinet it was housed in and refused the gift.
I can understand why...
Upon close inspection it was clear that the engineer had changed the hook, bobin case and oiled the machine.
It is lovely and free and sews as would be expected.
Now the 95k43 is meant to be a light industrial machine and on the rear side is a knee lift facility that clearly doesn't work in the cabinet.
Now this was a clue because the paint was clearly worn underneath where it had been repeatedly used with a knee lift.
Also the cabinet Hinges had been put on with the wrong bolts, ones with a modern thread.
This leads me to believe that at one time it was in a work table and probably in a factory setting.
These cabinets where for home use so women could both look after the house and children as well as help out with the war effort probably sewing uniforms or sand bags..
Anyway despite her being 79years old her parts are in exceptional condition.
These machines where certainly built to last
Parts now ready to be cleaned.
The problem I have now is that I cant decided weather to just put her back together again or to treat her to a new paint job, and If I did would it be a crime to not paint it black...
